Asteroid Loop

A solo submission for the 2025 GMTK GameJam. The theme of the Jam is "Loop".

Asteroids meets TrackMania. Compete against other players for the fastest time through a zero-gravity obstacle course.

Recently "employed" by the sinister ZAMAZON corporation, you find yourself trapped in an endless time loop with horrific implications. Not even death can stand in the way of optimized delivery times!

Important Tips, Please Read :

• Be gentle with your thrust! In space there is no air resistance, so if you thrust in a direction, you can only slow down by thrusting in the opposite direction.
• This game uses online multiplayer, you may experience latency on slow internet connections.
• I recommend you play in full-screen if possible, as it seems to perform better 🤷.

How to Play:

• Use the Left and Right arrow keys to rotate your vessel.
• Use the Up arrow key to move in the direction your vessel is facing.
• Use the Space key to self-destruct and restart the loop.
• Your goal is to visit the five satellites as quickly as possible.
• Compete against the ghosts of other players for the fastest time.

About:

Combines the inertia-based movement of the Atari classic Asteroids and with the competitive time-trials of TrackMania.

After your first round, you are shown the recorded paths of the next three best players, so you can learn from players slightly better than you and rise up the leaderboards.

If I had more time (and a better server) I would have liked to allow the player more control over which opponents they race against. I would also have liked to add a medal system.
